The National Curriculum states:

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.

How we meet these aims

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything … Without music, life would be an error.

As well as teaching music through a structured curriculum (via Charanga), music is everywhere in our school:

• Collective Worship, class worship, concerts and plays.
• Whole class music lessons learning to play an instrument and musical notation using either West Sussex Music Service or other specialist Music teachers.
• Use in other curriculum areas as songs to support learning.

In addition to children's usual music lessons in class we are pleased to offer specialist music tuition provided by peripatetic teachers who visit our school during the week.
